Bachelor of Music - Music Technology

The Music Technology program prepares young musicians for careers in the music industry in a wide range of fields, including music technology, multimedia, and studio recording/production.

Music Industry

  • Music Technology is a Bachelor of Music degree program. Students in this program follow the music core curriculum for all Bachelor of Music degrees at MU, including theory, music history, keyboard skills, ensemble participation, and instrumental or vocal private lessons.
  • Music industry students also take three semester-hours of secondary applied study, plus coursework in computer-based music notation, electronic music, and music business.
  • All students must pass the first piano proficiency and sophomore review and are required to perform at least once on the weekly Thursday afternoon music department recitals.
  • The final requirement for the degree is a 14-week internship in the area of the student's intended employment. The internship is normally done during the final semester or summer after all other course work has been completed. To qualify for an internship, the student must achieve a minimum QPA of 2.5.
  • Students must successfully complete a live audition in an applied music area (instrumental or vocal) for admission into this program. The audition will include aural skills and music theory placement tests.
