This page provides access to music department forms, resources, and information.
Registering for Ensembles for CREDIT
- After submitting your registration check on your student dashboard to see if you were registered for 1-credit or 0-credit (it might say “hours” instead of credit).
- If you need to change this, click on the “Registration” tab, followed by clicking on “Register for Classes.” You will then see a table with all of your registered classes listed.
- Click on the “Schedule and Options” tab. Classes that have variable credit (ensembles can be taken for 1 or 0 credit) will show a dropdown menu that you can use to change the credit. (see the picture below) The default is ZERO credit.
- Change any you need to and click submit.

Fall 2023 Ensemble Placement Auditions
Voice Auditions - Live with Dr. Dettwiler. Sign up for audtion slot on Dr. Dettwiler's door (Butler 105). August 19 and August 20, 2023. More information in the "2023 Choral Program Letter" above.
Instrument Auditions - Live with BAND & ORCHESTRA DIRECTORS. Sign up for an audition on Dr. Brennan's door (G9). Saturday evening, August 19, for non-marching band members. Marching Band members will likely have instrumental auditions scheduled throughout the week of camp. Dr. Tedford may be on campus Saturday (Aug. 19) to hear woodwinds and brass interested in playing in the Symphony Orchestra.
String Auditions for Orchestra - live with Dr. Tedford and Mr. Vaida. These will take place just prior to the first Wednesday evening rehearsal (August 23), beginning at 3:00pm. String players should sign up for an audition time on the board (or door) outside Butler 106.
Percussion Auditions - percussionists should communicate directly with Dr. Brennan (abrennan@mansfield.edu) regarding auditions for ensembles.
Rhythm section auditions for jazz ensembles - Drum set, guitar, bass, and piano students interested in playing with the jazz band (and Mansfieldians) should communicate with Dr. Severn (info@eddiesevern.com) regarding materials, times, and locations. It is likely these auditions will take place during the first week of Jazz Band rehearsals (MWF, 2:00-2:50, Steadman Theater).
All students participating in ensembles must prepare an audition piece to perform at the beginning of the Fall Semester. The audition pieces are listed below, please print out and begin preparing the piece appropriate for your instrument/voice part. Also be prepared to sight-read, perform scales, etc. If you have questions, please contact your ensemble director.

CU Music Pre-Professional Observation (PPO) Forms:

- 3 days (7 hours each day) of elementary or secondary general classroom teaching (non-music) observations
- This should be completed in the first year of study. Most will complete in December or January. Some in May

- 2 hours general music, 4-6
- 2 hours instrumental music lessons, classes, or ensembles, 4-6

- Should be completed prior to acceptance into Teacher Candidacy and registering for MUSI 330 General Music Methods. Most will complete in the second year of study.

- Fingerprinting at the Mansfield Campus is available Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:00-11:30am and 1:30-3:30pm
- The code for Dept of Human Resources (DHS) fingerprinting is "1KG738." Music education majors must have fingerprint clearances for ACT 114 background check (1KG6RT) and DHS background check (1KG738) to observe and practice teach in preschool settings.
